Minutes Per Mile to MPH
Pace and speed measure the same thing two ways. Pace is how long it takes to cover a mile (minutes per mile); speed is how far you go in an hour (miles per hour). To convert, divide 60 by your pace in minutes:
MPH = 60 ÷ (minutes per mile)
For example, a 10-minute mile is 60 ÷ 10 = 6.0 mph. An 8-minute mile is 60 ÷ 8 = 7.5 mph.
Quick conversion chart
| Pace / mile | Speed (mph) |
|---|---|
| 12:00 | 5.0 |
| 10:00 | 6.0 |
| 9:00 | 6.7 |
| 8:00 | 7.5 |
| 7:00 | 8.6 |
| 6:00 | 10.0 |
Why it's handy
Treadmills are set in mph (or km/h), but training plans and races usually talk in pace per mile. Converting lets you dial the treadmill to the right speed for your goal pace — for instance, set 7.5 mph to practise an 8:00/mile.
Convert your pace automatically
Skip the maths: the pace calculator shows your speed in mph and km/h alongside your pace per mile and per km. Then set realistic race goals from there.
